ok, I'll see what it does over the next two weeks, It went in the tank friday night, I had bought a bangai cardinal from the LFS and it wouldnt eat and died in 2 days so I called them and they said that theyd replace the fish free but wanted a water sample, so I took that in(which it was good so they are replacing the fish) and they had this toadstool in there frag tank for weeks, so I had been eyeing it up for some time and had to have it, also brought home a small bluefin damsel which is supposed to be an aggressive fish but its actually been very peaceful so far, its eats like a hog though...anyway I'll keep watching the leather and keep you informed

    Just want to add.

While leathers are generally a very hardy and durable coral which will thrive in all kinds of water conditions...they do not like water params which fluctuate widely.

Is why they often do not do well in a newer tank. Often they shrivel up, never to open again, and finally start to disintegrate. :-[

Loss of fish is pretty good sign your tank chemistry has not stabilized yet. :-/

Would suggest keeping very, very close eye on water params and do a couple back to back water changes right away. May need to increase frequency and amount over period of next couple of months....

    Good luck.

I have a clown, a damsel, and lawnmower blenny all doing well, and also a small conch and a big hermit doing well, also coraline is growing, tested water when the cardinal died and as I said only the PH was a little off...I am concerned at the leather bit of loss in size, but when i scraped a little on the slime off it, it re-slimed itself quickly and also it still seems pretty firm...so i dunno, I guess we just have to wait it out...thanks for the replys though, oh I am adding a rapids canister to my already upgraded dilter system, so it will turn the tank over 28 times an hour all together...plus added surface movement for the gas exchange, I also want to add more lighting, I want to run 3 24watt 50/50 bulbs instead of my 1 current bulb...leather is near the surface though and was under PC lighting at the LFS

The three new bulbs/fixture should help it out more. Hope everything goes well. Also, you may be reaching the most fish you can have in a tank that size. When fully grown, you will have about 9-10 in. of fish.
