OK.. I have been sick with the flu. So what does that mean to my children? YES mom is sick and can't get up fast enough so we will get into everything.

Well my 3 year old got into my test kits and decided to put one of the drops in my tank. All I know is it was green. Of course I am freaked out and stressing. I changed 5 gallons of my 15 gallon tank. My mushrooms shriveled up, my leather bent over. I didn't dare change all the water with fear I would kill everything!!!

Well 2 hours later my star polyp that I have had for over a week finally opened up!!! The leather is standing straight up and the mushrooms look really lush. (hairy mushrooms) My fish all look good. I am waiting for the little booger to go to bed so I can check all the levels. I have the kits hidden away. They were up high before, but the booger knows how to use things as ladders..

Cross your fingers nothing bad happens in my tank...

 You have to watch out he doesn't mistake the test kits for sour drops, some of them are dangerous!

good luck...def get carbon. But like IBMGEEK said...please put those tests up out of the kids reach. I would have never thought about that but if he got into it and put in fish tank, he might one day get into it and think it was candy. Good post for others with kids...as again I dont think we think about that very much!

It is amazing how kids can get into anything. I was babysitting my nieces and nephew while my brother and sister in law were out of town. The twins i guess they were 2 or 3 at the time and the baby was a couple months. The twins were escape artists and they had deadbolts on all the doors high as they had gotten out before. I was upstairs changing the baby when I hear the garage door open. I run downstairs and see the 2 kids and the dog outside. I go and grab them and bring them back in. They had installed the garage door opener way high, higher then the kids could have reached! Well after trying to figure out how they did it and thinking I was the worst aunt possible, Syd the girl twin opened up the back door again (one without deadbolt) grabbed a broom handle and opened the door again! Nobody believed me until she did that in front of her parents!

    Good Luck and feel better

Thanks everyone. I do have the chems up high in a closet behind some linens. I read the box with a BIG warning harmful if put in eyes, will burn.. OMGosh. I was freaking out...

I do have carbon running. Funny my husband said it will be ok because of the carbon. He said that is what the military line their Chem suits with.

When I went to bed last night the water was still a tint of green, this morning it is really clear and I do not see any casualties.

So lesson learned: DO NOT LEAVE test kits where kids can find them.

I hope you use child proof locks on your doors and drawers. Hopefully you teach him why its wrong to play with chems and the tank.

Oh ya the kids can do some wonderful things at that age. One of my daughters at around age 3 or 4 thought she would be daddy and clean the glass with my magnetic algae scrapped.. unfortunately she did not understand you are just supposed to move it back and forth and not hit the glass with it. OHHH BOY was I happy when I got home and my wife told me to look at the tank. had a bunch of nice little chips in the front of it but fortunately she was not quite strong enough to break all the way through.

Live and learn is the name of that game.

Hope everything turns out good for you

I DO use child proof locks. the problem is he has figured them all out. One time I bought a lock for the fridge. He had that figured out in less then an hour.. He was 2 at the time. The cabinet and drawer locks.. He's no dummy he got those figured out too. The child gate.. Figured that out or climbs it. I have one of those boys who can NOT be trusted alone. He is too curious. Heck even my cats are at curious as him.

I don't these people can even conceive what I am talking about unless they have a child like him. He is too smart for his own britches.

Thank you for your concern. It is looking good so far. Everything seems to be perked up and acting normal.
