So again, I'm new at SW and this great community. For some strange reason the Tomato stick very close to the Diamond Goby, it wont go more that 5" apart, except when feeding time the tomato goes nuts..

So aside from that funny situation, I don't know what to do with the Goby in terms of feeding! :-/, if I feed flakes, they are all over the place tomato eats most and the rest ends in the filter, LR and a few in the sand and Goby won't go looking for them, I dont think it's the most efficient way of feeding him it's too much waste IMHO.
I tried pellets (NL SPECTRUM) but even though he bites at them, he just sifts them as the rest of the sand and come through the gills, and again the tomato goes and look for them in the sand.

Finally yesterday I tried small bits of fresh shrimp from HEB store, and he seems to love it but he wont swallow it :-/, he bites then throw it out and again and again until he gets tired and I'm worried about the waste of uneaten shrimp.

¿What do I do? according to the LFS it will eat flakes, pellets, frozen...

Both fish have been 4 days with me now...

    Cheers!!;D

I know he is supposed to be in a big stablished tank, mine is 15G and 2 weeks old (used sand and water from cycled tank ), even if it was one year old tank i know 15G will never offer enough food though the sand, and I really want to keep him, he is great and have a funny personality.

Sorry for my english, I'm from Mexico..

    Cheers!!

    Nice pic. :)

I had a Diamond Goby a few years back. I used to take cube of Formula 1 (meaty) food and bury it near his burrow. He would dig it out and eat it. This worked very well.

Sometimes I would target feed mysis with a turkey baster too.

I hope this helps and welcome to 3reef!

I always used Julians thing to put food under the sand but that's an amazing idea. Thanks.

I take 2 cubes of the PEmysys and 1 cube of Cyclop-eeze in a container, like a pill bottle after it's melted I have been feeding aprox 1/2 ml in my nano, it seems to work really well, the large chunks sink, the med chunks sink slower and the Cyclop just hover in the tank, every bit of food is gone in a matter of min and every fish has a chance to eat. turn the pumps on and the fish chase what scraps come off the rock. I used to have a clown that would not get food, but I learned eventually that when they get hungry even your engineer goby will come to the top at feeding time.

Thats what i think however i read that they could starve to death if they don't get used to get food aside from the sand...

FYI New Life has larger pellets that are appropriately sized for the Goby. Mine loves them, as do all of the other fish and shrimp. As you already know, you have a challenge ahead of you due to the small and un-established sand bed. Also, what kind of substrate is that? It looks borderline too large for a sand sifter, but could just be the picture.

I'd be careful of any more advise from that LFS.Some LFS employees will tell you anything to sell you fish and some just don't know enough to be giving advise.BTW,your english is just fine.

I dont seriously know what kind of sand is as it was not bought from a bag but from an established tank that the owner of the LFS trade me for faster cycling, I will say its about the size of pellets (1mm sorry for the metric system haha)
