I have been on several internet sites and a lot of the sites say that a 4 foot tank would be fine. Most of the online retailers sell them at about 2". One of my LFS's has one for $60 and he is about 3" right now. Would this tang work? I have good mechanical filtration and about 80 to 100 pounds of LR. All my params have been great for a several months.

Now, the last thing I want to do is have a tang just to have a tang. Put him in my tank and then in a year have to remove him because he out grew my tank. Most of the large Tomini's I have seen have only been about 5 to 6 inches. I don't think that is too large for a 55g. I have moved my rock to the back wall and have a lot of swimming space.

What do you reefers think? Does this sound ok? If not, I guess I will have to upgrade tanks soon.

First, what other fish do you have in there? If you don't have many, I think you should be ok. They are some of the smallest tangs out there. They get to about 6" and IMO, that is too big for a 55, it's about half the width of the tank. But if you by it small, you will most likely have a few year or two before it gets fully grown.

I have a tomini in my 55 and he's been fine since I put him in there. We have 100lbs of live rock and he spends his days cruising around picking at the rocks and powerheads. He is in there with nothing but a pair of clown fish and a clown goby though so he has a ton of space without having to compete for territory, and we plan on only adding one more fish (a hawkfish) so he will continue to have all the space he needs.

So I'd say if you don't intend to add many fish to the tank then he should be ok, but if you want to stock more fish I'd maybe bypass him just as a space issue.

Thanks for the input reefers. I am still on the fence about purchasing, but will let you know if and when I do.
