I would like to make this build thread VERY interactive and one way to achieve this is to post a BIG question mark on this photo. I would like to see who can tell me what light is being used on my new 300. I added another photo showing you the PAR readings we got after four hours of burn time. It’s important to me that you are aware that I did not take these readings myself and that I had Marvin Ballard the President of the Florida Marine Aquarium Society take them for me. In this photo you will notice that it’s just one light burning. And, the PAR readings are an indicator as to how bright it is in this tank.

Now, let the guessing begin. Call your friends see what they have to say.

I'm going to stab at Plasma due to the par levels, the height of the fixture and the perceived spectrum. (cameras can have such an effect there it's hard to tell) It's also a point source light. But it could of course be a cluster of leds..

The other reason I think plasma, is that it's the only light source that I can think of that you would make this big of a deal about unveiling.

All of which mirrors my thoughts exactly!

The only other element which might make me suspect an LED cluster, is the size of the fixture. The only plasma fixtures I've seen are pretty large, much larger than perceived in this photo.

I'm with grim and evolved thinking its plasma. You mention the light as burning for 4 hours which veers me away from led and more towards plasma.

But dang with those numbers on that big a tank is crazy. Your getting on your sand bed the same par as I get 4 inches under water.

    A lot of great guesses!

But, let me start with this, I’m often disappointed by evaluations made on aquarium equipment without any real world experimentation. These results can lead to negative responses by the hobbyist without ever using the product or the results will have a hobbyist purchase the equipment only to be disappointed with its performance.

This scenario applies to the lights I’ve been toying with for a little more than two years. The results have been better than fantastic. For over two years now I have been working on a hybrid light system that not only is it giving my corals improved color but growth rates are extraordinary.

The light you see in the photos I posted is one light retro fitted to a 72-inch Giesemann Infiniti light fixture. The Giesemann fixture was completely gutted to accommodate these lights.

O.K. I provided you with more info, now give it another try. Some of you are close!
