I found out what lighting you had been playing with for the last 2 years. Not too many hobbyist that have canons like ours since they have never been marketed to hobbyists, only public aquariums.

I think in the end it would look much cleaner if it was mounted the way I described. Does make you wonder why Geisemann had not done anything like that on their own.

Greg, this arrangement works very well.

The Giesemann fixture has been completely re-worked and is now housing five Cannons; two Blues and three whites. In addition I am running four T5s. Please bare in mind that this took a lot of research and many hours of experimenting before finding the solution to the temperature issue - with no fan(s).

That light fixture looks epic, does it dim the led's independently?

Yes they do, each independent driver has the ability to dim (dimable drivers). I've got a surprise with that as well, coming soon.

How did you over come the heat issue with no fans?

Ecoxotic informed me that the temperature of the module could not get over 140°. So, I tested their Cannon with its own heat sink and found that the temp reached 123° - 126°. That gave me some wiggle room and I started to experiment as I did not want to add heat sinks. The solution was to attach the modules directly to the fixture and that kept the temperature under 129°. 6° to 3° difference than its own heat sink, I was doing cartwheels after that news! After all that work, it turns out that the Geisemann fixture is one giant heat sink. More on this in an up coming article.
