I took a look at those reading and the only fixture the Taotronics would outperform in this test is the Illumina (which was designed to hang 3-6" off the surface of the water). The Taotronics was only 10" off the water. That is definitely an advantage to the Taotronics so I would handicap the testing. The other's were 12" off the water and I can tell you 2" can be a significant advantage. The closest to a comparison of the fixture should be:

    AquaIllumination
    Center: 510

    Vertex Illumina
    Center: 118

    Ecotech Radion
    Center: 215

    Taotronics - 55% whites and 100% blues
12" below water surface = 210 (keeping in mind that it has a 2" advantage)

I am suggesting that you may be paying for branding more so than strictly quality, albeit there is a quality factor too.

That's not what I am saying. I am suggesting that the components within these cheaper LED fixtures may very well come from the same companies that build the components for these cheaper units, just like you find in supermarket store branding (You won't find a link for that, so don't expect one for LEDs either). These companies reach every level of the market this way.

The Taotronics were run at 55% output with the whites in this test.

I worded it this way because you stated that the corn flakes were actually made by Kellogs. What you are saying now is that they only get the corn from the same place. :)

    No, I am not.

Kellogg corn flakes, inside a Great Value package.

Quality company components, inside a non-branded/off-branded fixture.

....and I did not hide that fact. That might offset the 2" through air advantage. Even still it is probably behind the Radion.

Best case scenario is that the fixture gains 22.5% in PAR. But we know it won't because the efficiency of an LED drops big time the more power you put to it.

either way a radion is what 700$ ? so when you can get almost as good par readings out of an under 200$ unit. yea. pretty much anyone with a brain would go for the taotronics.

The unit was at 78% power, sat two inches higher and had 120* optics and still had higher par.
