I saw this listing on Craigslist this morning...

180 gallon oceanic all glass saltwater aquarium with stand and canopy, 72 inch vho lighting, 180# plus liverock, all livestock, chiller, refugium and mechanical fitration, pumps, skimmer and whatever else i have related goes as package in one deal

    He is asking $1500.

The live rock alone is worth $500-$700. Livestock includes several tangs and dwarf angels... so a few hundred bucks of livestock.... he said it was a Precision Marine skimmer but didn't know what kind.

I am thinking of going and looking at it tonight... offer him $1000 and see he will take it...

Go for it man. I once bought an Camero that a guy was selling for $4000 but I only paid 3k because that's all I had and I laid it out in cash on his kitchen table. He went gaga over 30 100's and didn't think twice about dropping a grand off his asking price so it's a technique I still use today.
But since it's on CL I'd have 911 punched into my celly and my thumb on the send button the before you ring thier doorbell LOL.

Go for it dude. That's a great price for all that, depending on the condition of the tank.

For what is listed, $1,500 is cheap. My tank and lights alone are $1,500.

i agree....just look at the cost of the liverock not to mention a tank. I hope he scores this!

I am always rooting for my fellow 3reefers when these opportunities arise.

Understood :) Nothing in this hobby is cheap though. My point is $1,500 is a drop in the bucket for a large tank, and if you plan to set up a large tank, it is not surprising to spend $1,000 - $1,500 on stand and tank alone, much less rock, sand, and all related equipment, so $1,500 is hardly breaking the budget. The monthly cost of keeping a 180 with electricity and water changes, etc. alone are around $100 depending on how religious you are with water changes and upkeep and electricity costs in your area. So if you can afford upkeep on a large tank, $1,500 shouldn't bother you much.

yeah i agree with sollie. yeah its a good deal however what Sollie is saying is thats a average selling range of used equipment. You always get a bigger bang for your buck buying used! ...and with this hobby, your never going to sell or buy any equipment for anywhere near its originally worth. If everything was new, then I could understand "to good to be true" Good luck either way!:)
