    Yes, he did not expect the phone to ring ever.

    It would not matter who was on the phone. He might have commited suicide if it was an auto dialer afterwards, but if he could have he would have stopped jumping at the ring of a phone.


    ALSO! I am not giving clues, thats the point, the only way for you guys to learn more you must ask questions. Its pretty easy once you figure it out.

    So was there some sort of huge disaster (ie nuclear war) and he thought he was the ONLY person left alive on the planet and couldn't take it any longer...hence the jump...but the ring of the phone proved him wrong?

    He was fed up with trying to get his phone connected with the telephone company and he had enough so he commited suicide.....then the phone rang and he realised they connected him!!!
