Hello I was wondering what would be a good powerhead for me to get for a 5 foot 110 gallon aquarium.. I've been looking at hydor but I'm just not sure.. I wanted to go with 2 mp10 but the price is high is there any thing that could get me close... Thanks

You can do the Tunzes. They put out a better spread. But it just depends on your budget. Here is a comparison video of the Tunze vs. Vortech.

    Flow vs. turbulence - YouTube

The test begins at the 5:05 mark unless you want to hear about flow and turbulence.

i just bought a hydor from big al's online "the 1040" for 32 buck shipped. i liked it a lot and i didn't have a bunch of money to spend. I want to get the vortech but just cant afford it right now. It gives a nice pulse to it. I just ordered a second one yesterday to replace an older power head. The two will be plenty for my 4 foot 120 gallon tank. You can hook them to a timer and have an on/off through out the day. I know lowes has a digital timer that you can have 24 on/off functions in one day for about 15 bucks.

Tunze is the producer of that video. And are the only ones who care about it. It was in response to 3rd party testing that tunze failed miserably on. They ended up just lowering all there GPH claims...

You are welcome. I like the new hydors but my only concern is if they fixed the problem that after a while from them cutting on and off that when they turn back on they back spin instead of spinning normally. Wish you the best and good reefing.

My new ones from Big Als still have that issue. I tried using them intermittently and ran into it just last week (these were purchased just a couple months ago)

Actually they issued a free fix on most of the pumps that increased the gph to above the rated gph and redisigned others.

i can promise you 2 1050 koralias will not be enough in a 120. I have 2 750s, and 2 1050s, in my 75! and it was not enough.

I switched to a vortech and am never looking back. Right now i have 1 mp10 and 2 750s and a 550. When i have the money i am going to run a mp10 and mp40 and thats it.

and also i bought my 750s and 1050s from big als. and some of them would start in reverse when they were brand new not 2 months ago! glad i bought them on sale so i sold them for more then i paid! junk i say.
