thats only a 14 times turnover rate. SPS needs atleast 50x turnover, softies around 30x.

Soo.. what should I use? If I stick with just softies, would two suffice? I'm somewhat at a loss here as far as what I really need...

I would recommend 2 of those for softies. I run 3 of them on my29g tank (will be a mixed reef).

I also added a Taam Rio 200 I had laying around, for some more surface tension, but that's not necessary.

Personally, I think a few smaller powerheads is better than one large one. That's why I opted for the Koralia 425s over the Koralia Evolution pumps. They take up less space too, so that's a nice added benefit.

Here's a quick phone pic. I also have a taam rio 20 at the water line. I am not sure if I will keep it there or not.

IMO use a variation of different pumps.I have both koralia nanos and a maxi 1200 in my 20 and the different flow rates interact creating nice currents, swirls, undertoes, etc. I would go with one koralia 750 and maybe 2 425's. I would also put the 2 425's on one side of the tank and the 750 on the other. Point the 2 425s any way u wanna one up one down. and have the 750 blowing across the length of the tank... Thats what i would do.

Just like you when i first started my 20. i had one 425 in my tank. It gave me little flow. On paper the numbers made since for what i was hearing around here but that was before i knew about sump flow etc. everything in my tank loves the current, makes them work a little harder to get around and it makes them feel like there not in such a confined space... in theory ::) who knows what they really think. haha but i do know when i do water changes and i turn off all the pumps they seem to be like \/\/TF happened?wheres the flow man. kinda funny.

Thanks! This is very very helpful. All I can find are numbers, but not placement and things like that. Really appreciate the help!
