Ok... So i figured out that I had too little current in my 60 gal DT. So i went out a bought 2 Koralia 3's 850 gph. I figured this would give my system ( 30 gal sup , 10 gal refugium, 65+ LR, 60 lbs sand(maybe not sure but a good amount), I have a mag pump external to the sump its rated at 950 pgh but is at least 4 ' away so its really 700-800 gph, have a pump for the skimmer in sump). So i hooked up the 2 ppower heads today took out my old one that i had in there turned um on and Blam i have current. My blenny has decided to play in it but gets really close to the Overflow...(sucked in once, moved the net up hope it wont happen again) My question is.. is this too much current? Should I cut off one of the power heads? I have a baby clown who is moving around fine but the current can whip him around sometimes. Any thoughts? Thanks Dave :-/

I have 2 K 3 equivelent in a 5ft and the clowns like to surf in the current
once they adapt to it , I reckon they will love it

Fish love the current. It's a good thing.

You are fine. If you have any doubts, watch one of those nature shows when they are showing the reef. Talk about current! Things are whipping around pretty good down under the waves. Most aquarists do not have enough flow, but they think they do have enough.

I say if your fish can handle it and have some spots they can get out of tons of current and rest than your good.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but the fish love the current. How do you keep your DSB from getting kicked up everywhere if the current is really that strong?

You only have about 26 times turnover for 100 gallon total. This is good. You can view your tank and get a good idea if you have too much or not

    Hey thanks guys

Hey, thanks for the quick response! All the reading I've done tells me what you've said and thats why i bought the pumps that i did. But I tell you it just seems like allot of current inthere. Although they do seem to play init and the bleeney really seems to love it. thanks again

I would say that if your fish never leave the rocks due to a sandstorm, then you have to much, otherwise........

I have experienced this myself - sand being blown about and it was simply a case of to much flow in one location rather than to much flow

if for example I pointed both my Ks towards the middle of the tank, front glass - then the turbulance created at this spot would whip my sand bed up

solution was to point one forward of the other one so that the 2 flows did not meet head on, thus still had same overall flow, but less turbulence front and centre

and naturally the smaller K types and other power heads can be pointed down wards, but the larger ones, cannot as they are so forcefull, they will blow sand about
