I am going to be installing a sump on my sons 29 gal tank. I have everything needed to set it up sump, overflow box, hoses, piping everything off of my 72 bow that I took down. My question is the return pump will pump about 600 GPH at 4' of head. My calculations is about 20 times the turn over rate. Is this to much? I can down size the pump but I want to use what I have got and I perfer not to put a valve on the pump but I can. it is a fowlr at the moment but we are wanting to make a mini-reef. Thanks.

That won't be too much, but if you do add a ball valve most pumps run more efficiently when dialed back again anyway.

+ 1 on that not being to much flow
I have 30 x volume of tank in water movement on my FOWLR

if you can split the flow up so its not all delivered back to same place and heading in same direction, that would be ideal IMO

Thanks guys. I hooked it up and have it running. Everything appears to be working fine. I will take pics tomorrow and post. I got the skimmer hooked up in the sump and its pulling out some NASTY stuff. I am glad its hooked up and running. I have got it where I can adjust the angle of the flow so I will be fine tuning it tomorrom. Thanks again.
