Too much flow? Or not directed correctly?

I have 2 maxi-jet 1200's with the 1600 gph mods. When i turn them on it just seems to me like there is way to much flow in my 65g. Every once in awhile it will kick up some sand, but thats not what bothers me. My fish dont really look like they enjoy it all that much. They swim in it just fine but something just doesnt seem right.

I have one powerhead pointed right across the rocks at the back of the tank(the powerhead on the right). And the one on the left i have pointed at the front middle of the tank.

Any suggestions on maybe where i should have them pointed??

I cant answer it for sure, but I use more pumps with less power. Instead of a few pumps with a lot of power.

You might be creating a gyre that way with too much straight-line (laminar) flow. Try pointing them both at the front middle so they collide in the middle, coral like more chaotic flow anyway which colliding currents will create. I don't think you have too much flow overall. It may take your fish some time to get used to new flow patterns as well, don't change it too often or they may never settle in and find their favorite spots.

Try getting a splitter so that each power head has two outputs. that will reduce the direct power a lot.

Oic, they are modded... in that case I am not sure if a splitter will work.

The advice about both aimed toward the front middle is sound the way you have the aqua scape. Personally, I would double the rock and then some. If you did that, You would aim one at the back glass middle and one front glass middle but pointed up slightly to get surface agitation.

i just went ahead and demodded both of them back to their original 295gph. It is a much more gentle flow and looks alot better to me. Although i may need to get more powerheads now. Thanks for the help guys! k+

I think thats actually too much flow you have over 40xcoming from only two directions and those directed are oposite to each other so basically instead of flow you are getting turbulence, your fish are swiming inside a washing machine basically try redirecting it or going back to the original non moded powerheads. This is just an opinion.
