Ok I've had this leather for awhile, sometimes its open sometimes its closed. Here lately its been closed up. I'm beginning to wonder, could it be closed up bc of too much light? I have a 4 bulb t5 and its about 3/4 of the way down my 29g. Doesn't make sense to me if that's the problem, its not like I have a 250w mh...

A good T5HO fixture is comparable to a 250W MH for light output. At the depth you have the leather the issue may be flow. They like high flow more then medium flow.

That was the problem last time, I moved it to a higher flow area and did ok for awhile. Tonight when I get home ill move it to an even higher flow area. Corals you picked up yesterday looked awesome by the way, congrats.

Some corals don't do well with too much light. Although there are many differences between leathers, as a general rule they usually like light. So, I would be skeptical.

First guess would be flow. Second guess, would be mg, ca and alk. I've found that these parameters can effect leathers more than most soft corals. Next guess would be some toxin, so carbon may help. Too much light would be pretty far down on my list.

Come to think of it I am due for a water change. Although idk if that's why its closed up, its only been 2 weeks. I will test my params when I get home tonight before my water change, then after my water change. That way ill know if I need to dose anything in between.

Thanks, leathers periodically close down, slough off then come back better than ever. The process can take a couple of days.

It doesn't look all that bad at all. I think it is in slough mode. It looks nice and erect.

It looks nice and full to me, when I first put my leather in my tank on the bottom it closed on itself some. My seems to turn blue every night when the 10k/15K bulbs go out but colors back up orange every morning. I put mine off to the side of my PH so it gets medium flow. I have pictures if you need :)
