to some degree it depends what your keeping - as not all coral relish intense light and some would not be happy

but IMO in general most corals will either appreciate it or adapt to it

it does not sound like to much light to me

as it is a significant upgrade you will have to acclimatise

so start it maybe 15 inches above your tank and lower it down 1 inch at the end of each week

or if its a canopy / hood type and you cant raise it
cut down your lighting period to 4 or 5 hours per day and increase by 1 hour each week
until you back to normal regime

Giesmann is a great fixture! One thing I would ask is how old are the MH bulbs? You are looking at 100/bucks a bulb for a 250 MH replacement.

It would open up a lot of opportunity for you coral wise. If by chance it is too much right now(whihc I would say very little would not like it) you can always keep the MH time on low

That's a lot of light. But would give you lots of opportunities. :)

You can have the light just 1" above the tank?

He means lower it down 1" each week until everything acclimates to the new lights.

Oh sorry I misread it. I first thought he said start at 15" then lower to 1" by the end of the week.
