I'm looking into purchasing a new dehumidifier because due to the amount water my 2 tanks are holding thiers bound to have a good amount of moisture all around my basment...
Although what i want to know is how many PINTS dehumidifier will i be needing,As my tanks i'm rinning Is a 83 gallon main display along with a 25 gallon sump.
Aside from that system i just recently had constructed my 40 gallon frag tank that's in it's 4 week cycle peroid...
I also have my pair of laundry units in the same area and a full sized washroom as we'll...
my basment is 700sqf in living space...
does any of you fellow reefers have issues with moisture problems...
btw I live in Canada so the winter hits us pretty bad up here..
we can get deep freezing temps of 47c below 0

Can you tap into a drain? If so then connect the output to the drain and don't worry about it. Many dehumidifiers have a drain connection.

Wouldn't it just dry out the tank? I haven't noticed any differences in humidity after installing my tanks... I do live in Florida though. :D

Get the biggest one you can afford. The pints rating is more of how much moisture it can remove per 24hrs than anything else. The larger the rating the more efficient it will be. It will actually cost you less money in electricity costs to run a larger dehumidifier as undersized units run the compressor more often and can struggle to keep up with the demand. I have the Soleus Energy Star 70-Pint Dehumidifier DP1-70-03A purchased from Walmart. Works incredibly well.

Hope it works for you, but I think the greatest change you might see is the amount of evaporation from your tanks. FWIW, I've rarely seen a basement that wasn't naturally humid- even without any aquariums- and dehumidifiers made no noticeable difference...

I run a dehumidifier in my basement and definitely notice a difference in the room.

we'll the kenmore has been doing a great job!
I breath a lot better in my basement and feel a lot more fresher then before,As for what I've also noticed that my doors in my 2 rooms in the basement close a lot better without no tight gapping noises...
this being said is that the amount of moisture that my basement had been keeping all through the area since my whirlpool 20 pint croaked.
I dump 2 full buckets of collected water from my kenmore and damn Is it a must for anyone having a fully finished basement or having tanks as we'll downstairs...;D
