I'm building a fuge for my 34 gallon cube, the fuge will probably be about 15 gallons. I'm in the market for a skimmer but really want to make the right decision. I don't want to over do it and lose the foam buildup but also want to have the cleanest water possible. Would this be a good choice?

Or other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks 3reefers

You cannot go wrong with that model...IMO. You could get away with a less expensive skimmer on a 34 gallon though.

I have the external 4" model for my 29 BioCube, I plan to use it with EcoBak pellets.

I'd have to agree and I'd listen to Bio, he knows his cubes. +1

Thanks man, I haven't used it yet. I know it will work great with EcoBak pellets. But the skimmer gets great reviews, you can't go wrong with Reef Octo.

(Here mine sits next to my sump plans and Wedding plans)

What project is the ****ens' Village for? :p

I find the larger skimmers much easier to control and keep stable water levels. Found some of the nano skimmers to under perform and be a nuisance to maintain.

Bio Pellets will definitely increase skimate more that you would expect.

Haha, I was waiting for someone to point that out. I got those from my grandpa when he moved out of his house. It's pretty impressive how detailed those things get.

I currently have the Tunze 9002 (nano) skimmer, every 4 weeks or so I need to rip it apart and clean the air way of salt buildup. In fact I get to rip mine apart today.... Yippie!

Wow thanks for all the great info guys. Sorry for my delay I've been really busy at work. Once this octo skimmer is in the sump, its not going to be very easy to get it out, like draining the sump to get it out. Do you foresee any problems with that? Emptying it once in a great while won't be so bad, but I can't be doing it every week.

    thanks again,

The cup will have a drain outlet on the bottom, this will make it easy to remove waste. You can even hook up a hose to a bucket 24/7 if needed.
