Top off water straight from r/o?

All membrane manufacturers and vendors recommend a cool dry place with no direct lighting. Its a ticking time bomb otherwise. While working as a municipal water supervisor I have gone on customer calls where they used RO for drinking and never serviced it or had it installed and maintained poorly where the bacteria and coliform counts were off the charts, too high to even estimate a count. On several occasions people had even seeked medical attention due to lack of knowledge whne it comes to maintanance and disinfection of the system. Not a pretty sight at all.

 

Wow that is pretty bad, AZ. So, just wondering..what kind of needed maintenance comes with an RODI unit, once it is setup?

 

6 month replacements on the prefilter and carbon block and disinfect the system according to the manufacturers directions at that time. Thats about it other than DI replacements when you start to see anything other than 0 TDS and membrane replacement when its no longer cost effective to keep replacing DI, usually at 95-96% rejection rate. Thats it. Not much attention at all othe rthan monitoring water quality with a TDS meter and the above.
