top up noob ques?

    hei guys!
    sori but i got a noob ques... just want to know excatly how things work!
    when you top up your reef tanks do you use RO water or saltwater?
    why?
    i read this website that salt doesnt evaporates when water does... is this true? and is it true that when the water evaporates the salinity rises???

    Do not top off with salt water as you read right. Salt doesn't evaporate and the salinity will rise.

    That is right...do not top off with salt water. THis will raise the salinity... wow that would be bad if you are not purposly doing it to raise your salnity. Now water changes on the other hand you want to match the salinity you are putting back in...

    Ditto...no salt in top off(but use ro/di) as salt doesn't evaporate, the reason we get that crappy salt creep. When doing water changes then use saltwater to match your salinity and temp in your tank.It's also best to let the change out saltwater set for awhile and aeriate.I have a plastic 55 gal drum and keep an airstone(set on a timer) and heater(set at 78) in it and keep some saltwater made up ahead of time,just in case.

    I know but I typed 78 and it posted as 78). think I figured it out I wrote 78 with a parentheses right behind it and 8parentheses closed might be a smiley...we'll find out,try it again....8)...yep,type 8 with ) right behind it is the cool smiley.....mystery solved........< :loco:
