top water tang?

Alright, so I have come to realize that although tangs grow large and need big tanks, I have become fascinated by them. They are quite possibly the best of fish. Anyways, I am looking to find a tang that prefers swimming in the top water column. Does anyone know of a tang that prefers to swim near the surface or even high in the water column.

i have never seen a tank that swims at the top level. since there all in the same family i would assume all tangs are midlevel swimmers. since algae grows on the ground tangs would have no reason to swim at the surface in the wild.

the quick fix would be buy a very shallow tank probably a custom build.

 

I suppose that makes perfect sense. My kole and blonde naso love weaving in and out of the rocks. The kole tang i have yet to see go higher than 8 inches in the tank, and the naso seems to wonder everywhere. I just want a tang that enjoys swimming above the rocks.

 

naso lopezi or vlamingi tangs swim the highest of the tangs ive observed.
but i wouldn't call it the top.

also bigger or old tangs swim higher, probably because they cant fit between rocks lol.

a good way to get them to swim higher is feed them higher so there forced to venture out more

 

lol, my girlfriend has wanted a vlamingi tang for sooo long. I hope she doesnt read this thread or shes going to make me get one or get one herself and put it in.

that makes me smile so much to know that our best bet is the one i've been dying to have and i have to say that i agree in the highest, tangs are awesom!!!
