Coralife, the old manual kind integrated with a power strip. My digital one is working fine.

I'll be cleaning the tank this weekend. I suppose the rock is OK, but I'm dumping the sand and 90% of the water- assuming I bring it back up. I may just have to nuke to rock and go dry until I can work out a better cooling solution so this doesn't happen again someday.

Curt I just wanted to jump in here and say thats good idea that should be considered by all reef keepers , I have 2 good trusted friends back in Richmond that I have given nice small colonies of all my stock to they have them going like crazy and for many yrs . Its a coral bank I guess but its a good idea many should consider .

OK, good, you're going to stick with it. I was worried. Let me know when you are up and running again and I'll send you a frag of something.

    Preventitive maintenance?

Sorry to hear that, bad few weeks for "geeks" here. Love the idea about the corals from Tangster, wonder if any LFS would do something similiar for us.

On the same note as this timer sticking, are there things that I should be doing to prevent this type of thing? I had a heater stick years ago and now know why to run a few heaters vs. one. Only has to happen once but there has to be more things like this to keep us from learning the hard way.

    oi that sucks.

I'd never run heaters without a controller on them. Yes they are expensive but so are the tank inhabitants.

+1 I think my controller is the one piece of equipment I would not trade. Makes running a calcium reactor worry free as well not to mention turning off lights, turning on chillers, etc.

Sorry to hear about your loss. If I were you and you are wanting to restart things I would not toss out the sand or the rocks, just let them be, they'll throw the tank into a cycle and you can let the tank mautre like this so when you're ready to give it another go you're ready...

I had a feeling it was the Coralife timer. I have gone through a dozen of them already and I had enough. As mentioned by KOgle and Jason, I bought the AC Jr with a DC-8 and a DC-4 and I love it. I should have bought it yrs ago. It is a little expensive, but well worth it and the piece of mind that one gets, is "priceless". Those timers (Coralife) cant handle all the equipment needed for a SW application(IMO). Food for thought. Luna
