i have a 46 bowfront that has HUGE swings before i alter it. I have a ton of coral and inverts they are always fine. when you can, get salt to top of and slowly rise it. I prefer the let it evaporate until its at 1.025 then add 1.025 pre-mixed salt to it so I know its not too much too fast

 shouldn't you fill your tank to the level and salinity you want and then add freshwater to top-off/bring your tank to the level you want?

This is what I do and it always keeps my parameters stable.

The only time I add my saltwater is after a water change.

It's up at 1.021 right now, adding the salt back in today to raise the level.

thanks, the lta was drawn in but I think it just had to poop.

That's what I've done to this point, evaporation doesn't remove salt so I've always topped off with fresh.

I did, right down the old drain.

Do you typically keep what you pull out for these type of emergencies?

Just a quick update, did loose a couple of hermit crabs in this mess. the upside is more free shells and fewer hermit crab fights.

My LTA seems a little bloated as I've been increasing the SG to where it should be but I think he's just regulating the water in his body if I understand correctly.
