Total Tank Re-Start after 4 years

Fired up the skimmer, and it is going crazy. Don't know what could possibly be in there, but hopefully it will clear soon.

Wow ... Diatoms. Havent seen those in 4 years!!!

 

Its very encouraging to see someone rebuild instead of getting out. Thank you for sticking in another round, us newbies need you guys too keep us on point.

 

No Prob....It is actually exciting again....Once you get your tank to a certain point, you run out of things to do. So this re-juvinates me, and I have a lot more experience this time.

 

Progress Report---new pics

Ok....Diatoms are doing their thing. I know that the pics look really brown, but the brown is actually fading. I put a phosphate and carbon sponge into my 2 reactors, and tested the water. I am at 0 ammonia..5 Nitrites, and 5 Nitrates. So about half way. The fish have shown no signs of stress, and are doing well. Skimmer is going crazy, and needs to be emptied daily. (don't know what the heck is causing all the skimmate, but OK. Things are going exactly as planned, and in 6 mo, she will be a beautiful reef once again!!

Now that is the attitude! Get past the ugly early months stage, that is what I keep telling myself. No majano or aiptasia yeah!!!!!!!!

 

It is fun all over again....and a hell of a lot cheaper this time, since I already own most of the equipment! Looking forward to the "Fun Stuff". Also been a lot easier knowing what to expect, and not freaking out over it!
