It's getting close..Thursday I think. I'm kinda nervous because I'll be using the bed out of the current fuge and putting the new one on a closed loop until stuff settles. I'm a little nervous about doing that but don't want to lose pods, there's a huge population of scuddle shrimp living in the sand.
The plan with the mangrove stand is to get them up just off center in the tank so I can control roots + give good hiding spots for critters. They will rest on the shelf and be supported in the cut out sections of the top piece.

take your time and it will be ok. when your ready to move the sand bed try and drain as much water out of it as possible, a python waterchange unit works great for this as it will draw the water to itself and allow it to be sucked out. this leaves the bed damp and compact allowing you to scoop it up largly undisterbed, place it in the new tank and then I would add a thin layer of new sand over top to help lock any nasties into the old layer long enough for it to settle down.

    good luck

I saw a bunch of utube videos with a similar design for the overflow I like the slotted tube addition, If I hadn't gotten an overflow box I'd do that design, but I got lucky and got one for free, with an aqualifter even :).

So now just need to get tubing and figure out how to connect it all and get the return pump & plumbing.:-/

Geeze, who knew that when I decided to do a SW tank I'd learn more about the properties of light & light bulbs, plumbing, and balance of ionic solutions and such.

I like the mangrove island idea, can't wait to see it.

Thursday..I think lol. I just finished painting the back of the tank and the pvc. Gotta admit I'm a little buzzed right now..don't use spray paint in areas with poor ventilation...lol
I was going to do another eShopps 300 but that would've been way to much flow out considering I have to move the water up 3feet and over 4 so it was real important to me to have no more than 175 going out. Plus I didn't want to spend much money on this project. LOL right..I just ordered $60 in goodies from reefcleaners.

Yeah need ventilation I'll need a lot when I do the 2 part epoxy on the inside of my canopy + maybe a mask from what I hear....stuff is stinky.

I thought that the amount of outflow can only be = to the amt. coming in (since it can't go out unless it's there) the rating of the overflow is just the max amt. of outflow it can handle. So actual flow rate is therefore regulated by the return pump.

I got $52 in goodies from reefcleaners...can't wait till Fri.
