I'm mounting two ballasts on some 3/4" plyscore that will be nailed into the wall studs. The plyscore board is about 22 X 18" & was sealed over with 3 or 4 coats of clear lacquer. My question is, will the lacquer finish (fumes) on this board harm the livestock in the tank? The board will be mounted on the wall behind the tank.
Anyone with any experience(s) with this or any info....would be greatly appreciated.

in time wouldnt the fumes go away? i wouldnt put fish in it but you could put a fan pointed away from the tank just to help them go away. or put a lid on your tank for a while and a fan, that would work i think.

hmmm, good question. I would think the clear coat once fully cured would have minimal off gassing. with adequate ventilation my 400w ballast barely gets warm to the touch so I dont think it will have much impact on the plyscore.

if the top coat is solid , and the lights wont cook it , i think youre fine seabass. laquers take about 28 days i believe to fully cure. but thats just the hardening , and all fumes will be already gone.

Ok great divott. Its been over a week now & the tanks been cycling for about that. It doesn't smell half as bad as the first week....Jeez, I had to leave the plyscore outside. I'm gonna bring it in the house & see if I can smell anything.

    Thank you!

I have been Urethaning a 7' x 2' platform for 4 days now with 4 think coat, so its like 8 coats really. Not too sure about the fish, but I have been feeling ggggggggggrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaatttttt!! LOL..

As long as it fully dries & it have enough air movement, your water should be fine. If it's still drying & it's in an enclosed area, your water might absorbed the vapors.
