My leather corals have been acting up for the past few weeks. I have several toadstool leathers, a cabbage coral, and a couple finger corals that have been closed 90% of the time for the past two+ weeks. I also have a flowerpot coral (branched Alveopora) and a hammer coral in the tank (that look to be doing great) and I'm starting to think there's some chemical warfare going on! everyone was fine until I decided to take the carbon out a few weeks back, everyone closed up so I put the carbon back, but since everyone is still pretty unhappy. any ideas?

Did you put new carbon in or did you put the same carbon in that you had previously removed?

I did originally put the old bag of carbon in the sump, then added a new bag in the return section of the sump the following week. I am actually thinking of taking one o my small ehiems I'm not using anymore, pack it with carbon and add it to my filter setup, I'm just a little worried about removing too many of the trac elements in the water.

The carbon in the return is doing little to detox the tank. The carbon should be a chamber before the return to filter the water before entering it. If concerned about trace elements, buy a good brand and dose once a week. I use Julian Sprungs' Sea Elements.
