Toxins in water?

So, last night I decided to remove some polyps and some algae from a rock. I scraped it off with a metal scraper, but I don't think the other coral in the tank appreciated it. Everything seems to be pretty normal except my frogspawn, duncan, and a couple shrooms. The duncan was open most of the day until now, the shrooms have been open about half way all day and the frogspawn is fully retracted. I did a partial 15% water change last night and got my water checked at my LFS today. They said everything looks good. Should I be concerned or might it take a day or so for the retracted corals to come back?

 

It might be an issue caused by harming those polyps. Many have toxins used to prevent other corals from growing in their area. If they let some loose into the water, it would be affecting the other corals. Try running carbon, if you don't normally. It should pull out anything the polyps released.

 

Could just be coincidental too. Duncans can/will close for a few days to clean themselves and/or to split new heads.

 

I hope so....I think I'll try some carbon just in case.

 

Since the scraping of the polyps coincides with the abrupt reaction of the other coral, I am going with toxins in the display.

 

+1 always good to run some carbon for a few hours when doing this kind of maintenance just in case.

 

Carbon or more easily a poly filter on hand is always a good solution for removing rouge toxins from your tank, especially in the case of large coral die off, cuke nuke, dead cow fish etc.
