Just got this today in a trade with the LFS and it was billed as a Wellsophyllia, my guess it is a Trachyphyllia. I honestly do not know know the difference?
Sorry for the lousy phone cam pic.
    Thanks,

I think both are the same thing- brain corals, coloration, and their taken location has something to do with the naming- but I could be wrong. kinda like zoanthids- good luck with them. Nice coral though.

The difference between the two if i do recall, its just the skeleton structure which you dont really see lol. If I remember right its looked at by looking at the bottom of the coral.

My welso's are always round and flat. the tracys have been kinda pointy and round cone shaped per say.

Welso is a dead taxonomic term. The new name is Trachyphylia. I think your coral is a Trachyphylia radiata.

    Interesting!
All I know is it's a beauty and the pic doesn't do it justice. Colors are very pastel, red, orange, blue and green very cool.

    Thanks all,
    John

There is no more "wellsophyllia", it's just trachyphyllia now, with a single species, geofroyii. Trachy radiata is also a dead term, so you definitely have a trachyphyllia geofroyii.
