I have a 30 gallon reef complete with live rock, corals, fish, etc and am about to transfer them all to a new 80 gallon system. Can anyone tell me what considerations I should take in terms of cycling the new tank? Thanks!

Well, your 30g LR and sand won't be enough to sustain the new tank. I would suggest doing a full cycle with a piece of shrimp to produce waste. It probably won't take as long if you put rock from you old tank in and some of the water from your old tank. You could even use some of the filter media from your old tank to help bring more beneficial bacteria over to possibly help shorten the cycle.

If you keep the lr wet while you transfer and if your adding the sand from the 30, you should be ok. Also, you shouldn't add any new livestock until you get some more rock. As coral reefer said, there are some good threads and articles on this site that should help a lot.
