i recently sold my 15 gallon set-up to someone and will be moving my inhabitants to a smaller tank (10 gallon, yes....i will need to find a home for two of the fish :) ). while i was at it i decided to purchase new substrate (arag-alive) for the ten gallon and the sand is settling right now. on the bag it claims not to wash it (due to the live bacteria), that you can add LR and inverts as soon as you want but you need to wait around 3 weeks before adding fish. i can understand why i need to wait (or do i really need to wait once the sand is settled and the water meets all params) to add the fish but i was wondering if anyone has had experience with this.....

i can find a nice home for the fish in a clean bucket until the specified time passes if need be.....

i would appreciate all input and suggestions, thanks in advance.

I would think if the only "New" thing is the sand you could add live stock as soon as the sand settles enough for you to see the back.

I take it you have "Live" sand. This may cause a very small cycle but I would just have some AMOlack on hand in case and keep a close eye on the amonia Levels

thanks for the reply jason. that was my thought as well....by the way, do you have a link to "AMOlack"? i tried a search and nothing came up. i take it the product neutralizes and decreases ammonia levels....possibly promoting nitrites...

about the sig....thanks, i try to "keep it real" :)

Sorry Jonathan it's actually called amoLock. But I've search myself and can't find and reference.

I always use Seachem Prime Water Conditioner when I shipped fish/corals/inverts as a safety procaution. I've also used it during the curing process of live rock to help with keep the die off to a minimal.

    jason,

i wanted to say thanks again for the input on the new tank. the only problem i had was a rise in nitrates but that was handled with a water change, all of the inhabitants are handling the change "swimmingly"....

    thanks again,
    jonathan
