after reading and kicking myself in the head over and over I was sold on an RO/DI unit.

I currently have my tank filled with treated Tap water and I am wondering the best way start making WCs. should they be gradual, or should I just go in for a 50 percent or more WC?

Im looking forward to all the benefits that come with this..

Saltwater tank ? why would you sell the r/o and best thing to do is go buy another one.. before you get started with water changes somethings you just have to have and R/O at the minimum is tops of the list of gotta have stuff.

I bought a new R/O DI system. If I already had one there would be no way I would sell it.. :)

He's not selling his RO unit. He said he was sold on it. Meaning he's buying one and wants to know how to go about converting his tap water aquarium to an RO water aquarium.

I agree though that RO is pretty much THE single most important thing when it comes to setting up a saltwater tank.

My first question is how long has it been running with tap?

I think he has just purchased an RO unit and has been using tap water. The wording is a little confusing, but that's what I get out of it.

I would start out with a 20% WC with the RO water and just go from there. Use the RO water as your top off and you will see the benefits. You don't need to do anything drastic with your system unless you are having a lot of problems secondary to all the stuff in your tap water.

So just keep on keepin' on and go with the flow.....

I guess I misunderstood what I read had a few things going on , But if you have the R/O then just do water changes sooner the better to get the better water into the tank . I'd do several 20% water changes every week for a month or so .

I agree 100% when I switched over to RO/DI water after 5 months or so after starting my reef tank I didn't do anything special, just started to use it, it will all be switched over/diluted eventually.

Id 3rd the above opinions , I know general principles would indicate that you should not make major changes - but if those changes result in improvements (which RO from tap will do majority of times ) then the principles change somewhat

No need 50% as PharmrJohn states unless you have some serious water quality problems at present - 20% per week if your normal is 10% would be good

You could also just do two 20-25% changes a week, that would give you a more gradual change as opposed to one 50% change.
