So im making a road trip to Sacremento this weekend and want to come back with corals. But Ive run into a problem. I will be leaving Sacramento Sunday, and was going to pick up corals before I left town. However, the meeting Im going to starts at 7 and ends at 5 in the afternoon.........coincidentally when most LFSs close:cry:. So I was thinking of picking up some frags Saturday night. I was thinking of taking a 5 gallon bucket, a heater, a powerhead and some extra saltwater and picking up the coral on saturday. What do you guys think? has anyone else done this?

The reason I worry is because this time, Im bringing $150 with me to Sac (Ive never been able to spend this much on coral at once before) and dont want to see it go to waste.

You should be ok as long as the powerhead doesn't blast the hell out of the corals while they're in the bucket. Also, since you're bringing a heater, you'll want to bring a thermometer too. Heaters can heat up a 5 gallon bucket of water a lot faster than they can a larger volume of water. How long of a drive have you got?

3 hours. The corals would sit over night, then pretty much all day on Sunday.

I would just put everything in an ice chest and that's it personally. Corals routinely go longer than that in the bags during the shipping process. Sac weather is going to be good temp wise (mid seventies) so you should be good to go.

You should not have any issues if you bring a cooler/ bucket with a powerhead and a heater. A thermometer is a good idea too, but the heater will shut off at the same temp as a bigger vessel will. it will just heat up quicker;0
