Tree Leather Coral disconnected from rock

mine just disconnected itself from the rock it was on. it is 6" +/- tall and showed no signs of stress. I had it up high in good flow. i assume it fell and is now sitting on the bottom of the tank. i have read they like high light and medium to high flow. i hate that it did this, now i have to attach it myself to another rock.

i do not have a pic of it before but will post a pic of it on the sand once my camera battery charges. i have attached a pic of its base i took when looking at the growth beside it.

could this be a sign of some parasite or just that it did not like the location?

That happened to mine a while back... I think it has to do with algae growth around its base... though not really sure. I ended up donating it to my college's tank. You might want to try attaching it to a small rock with a toothpick or something like that.

    is this the colt?

I have mine in the bottom of my tank under T5's (so low light) and it is in real low flow and it grows like mad and has attached itself to the rock in more than one spot, actually.

As compared to your high light and medium/high flow...

the leathers are finicky corals you need to make sure you have a high enough alklinity level and also the calcium level.

they have a habit of detaching from their rock as there base will look like it is dissolving.
to fix it up just put it either wedged between some rocks of wedge it between rocks using a rubber band and stick him in a medium to low flow area.

hes a good looking coral hope all goes welll for you

right now my ph is a little low at 8.0, Sg = 1.025, kh = 11, Mg = 1375, and Ca = 440 so i think those are ok, my No is still way to high (160) so maybe that is what the issue is. I may try to raise my calcium a little but not much. i had it in a medium to low flow area but maybe it was getting to much light. i may relocate it to a lower light but similar flow area and see what happens.

They are strange animals mine is a great indicator of any water changes and if I go above or below 1.024 he closes up.....I would atraCH HIM TO Another rock and set him on bottom.....but you have PC lighting so I cant really say....I had mine under PC and he did not do well at all...I got T-5's and he seems really happy good luck..
