University of Queensland scientists have solved a centuries old mystery of the role of double cone eyes by examining Trigger fish, Rhinecanthus aculeatus. Research by Justin Marshall and his colleagues from UQ suggest that Trigger fish use the double cones for color vision as independent spectral channels. Cones are light sensitive cells in eyes that allow us to see and the function of double cones found in certain fish, reptiles and kangaroos were not known until now.

A few years ago I was standing on a teak swim platform giving some passengers a kayak paddle 101, and my left pinky toe was hanging down between the grate in the platform. Well, about a 7 inch Queen Trigger comes up from the bottom and tries to take my pinky toe off. So I jab at her with the paddle I'm holding but she won't go away, and is just hovering a few feet under the boat waiting for my toe again... So I can attest to some good eyesight on those mofo's......

Interesting, so they can enjoy the beauty of a coral reef, before they destroy it that is. My trigger had great eyesight, he would get really excited when I pulled out a bottle of dried krill.
