    Hey everyone!!

I was looking for your guys input on a question. I have a 5.5 inch Pink-Tail Triggerfish and was looking to get some cleaner shrimp for my reef tank. I know that triggers generally eat everything and will have a go at just about anything, but i know that fish actually let cleaner shrimp clean them and inside there mouthes but do not eat them (Groupers, Cods etc)

Do you think it is too much of a risk to take to add some of these to my tank?

    Thanks all!!

hi, in the books i have (a pocketexpert guide) they say that PinkTail Triggerfish is one of the few triggers that can be kept in a reef. it will usualy ignore sessile inverts but larger specimens may eat ornamental shrimps. Since yours is only 5.5 inch i would try it, but with the biggest cleaner you could get!:)

You may have success with that, but it is easier if the Trigger were added after the shrimp.

+1 You simply cannot dictate a fish's behavior in captivity compared to their behavior in the wild. Just because a shrimp is a cleaner, doesn't mean that fish won't eat it. I learned this the hard way with hawkfish, dottybacks and cardinal fish who decimated over $500 in shrimp in my tanks through the years.
