I know for a fact that one of our LFS's has 4 different mantis shrimp scattered in their reef display tanks. I've personally seen one of them.

Generally, the only thing that makes a mantis not reef safe is that if they are big enough, and don't like the way your rocks look, they'll reaquascape for you. Which could result in corals getting barried or knocked around. Out smaller mantis shrimp has never even attempted to move a rock or a coral, and our adult G. Smithii has kicked up sand onto our brain coral numerous times, but it does no real harm.

Once a mantis gets its den built and established, it should leave all other corals and rocks well enough alone. So yes, most, if not all mantis are reef safe, just watch out for Peacock mantis (the really big ones) because they WILL reaquascape for you.

Haha Bo has had a snail in his tank since day one, and yet he's killed 2 out of his 3 chromis without even harming the snail. He's recently discovered the return outlet in our biocube...he perched up there a few times before diving back into the rocks. And he's been eyeing the last chromis for quite a while now...ugh. They are such weird creatures

These pics are SO much better than JWIN mantis pics. And the set-up as well. And the mantis too. Wow. Speechless. Man, I would hate to be JWIN. To just be blatantly shown up like this would have to be extremely embarrassing. I wonder how one would even cope...

New Bo pictures. He's getting braver, but he doesn't much like the camera. He's also FAST.
