The tank is exciting...the silicone is not! I got my son to Google how to remove it...basically, elbow grease. What a pain! Every time I think I got it all, I find another little sliver. :(

I used my fingernails lol I was scared to scratch the tank. I still have one piece stuck on a side that I missed. It looks like a small crack, and it gets me every time.

We essentially used Windex and elbow grease. It got everything off eventually. For nasty areas, I did see that razor blades can scrape it off without hurting the glass (if you're careful), some very fine steel wool will kinda work (too risky, IMO), and there's Goo Gone or other goop removers that could do the trick. Just wash your tank out really well if you use something like goo gone. The freshwater rinse will help as well when you do the trial run with plumbing.

For those interested, here's a full shot of the tank and canopy. Terrible phone picture, I know, but count your blessings :p

I actually thought my beautiful new tank had a scratch...was glad it was silicone! Used the fingernails, too. What a pain! I think the Windex helped. I'm glad we're doing a leak check run with tap water before the real deal to get rid of any residual Windex! Sometimes, the big challenge was figuring out if the gunk was on the inside or the outside of the tank!

    Back in Town!

We were in Florida visiting family for Thanksgiving. While there, I always visit the reef stores and ran across Coral Reef Junkies. They are just getting set up in Jax and have been open for a few months. The night before we left, I picked up a nice orange torch coral...the YWM goby looks like he's guarding it! I've never seen a torch this color! They have some beautiful pieces and good prices. The good news is they're supposed to start an online store after the 1st of the year! ;D

    Tank Update

Now that we're back in town, I'll be going full speed ahead on the tank. I'm ordering some equipment today, taking advantage of Cyber Monday deals!

So far: Eheim Jager 250 watt heater, new grounding probe, two Koralia Evolution 1500 PH's, and I think I'm going with the Reef Octopus Diablo DC 5500 return pump.

I'll probably be ordering some rock/sand from Reef Rocks. I'm waiting on the 30L to come in so we can start building the sump.

Just finished my move to the new house and got that last annoying piece of silicon off while the tank was drained!

Good for you! I'm going to have to make another trip or two around the tank...I'm sure I missed some of that silicone. Seems like every time I took a piece off, I found more!

Goodies are starting to arrive! I got the Octopus Diablo DC return pump, the Eheim Jager heater this week, and my box of rocks came today from Reef Rocks. Very nice rock. I really like the shapes. I'm going to have fun aquascaping! Also picked up the 30L for the sump from my LFS guy.

The biggest immediate project before we can even think about the transfer is the sump build. I'm going to check around this weekend on getting a few acrylic pieces cut.

    We're making a little progress!
