on this site Salt Mix Impressions this guy said that this salt caused an algae bloom every time he used it, i was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else because i was thinking on trying this. If so what salt would you recommend for a reef tank?

Instant Ocean web site, and reef crystals comes out on top of this study
who would have thought that eh (cynical Steve is in the building)

I personally prefer Red Sea coral pro , used Reef Crystals previously
I have used tropic marin and did not experience algae issues with it (because of it anyway)

Salt does not cause algae blooms unless it's loaded with phosphates and nitrates.

I've been using TM for over 4 years and never had issue. In that time I switched to the Pro Reef for awhile, but realized it wasn't for me. Never had issues with either type. Currently I'm able to buy the 300 gallon bags from LFS for $85 which is a little cheaper per gallon than the 200 gallon buckets. That is the regular TM not Pro Reef.
