Hello Jose214. When it comes to tropical tanks I've had success in growing plants in normal decor rock with no issues. As for tropical fish I feel that that's a personal preference to you, and if/when you get your shrimp make sure you do your homework to make sure they aren't lawn mowers. As for your set up, you'll need a standard tank, obviously, a light nothing to particular, a carbon filter and an air stone and pump if you choose not to run and air stone I would think about submerged pumps like those in a salt tank. The biggest think people forget is that carbon dioxide is bad for the fish but good for the plants. . . You really need to be careful with your setup.

Hope I didn't confuse you to much.
