The lights I listed before would work for a 40B. In addition to Current, Tek, is very good, so is aqua-medic, ATI, Aquatic life.

I'd avoid I would stay away from Odyssea, too many horror stories. Same for Coralife, and JBJ. Not quite as bad, but I haven't had good experiences with these companies and generally their products seem to be very price point oriented with lots of quality issues.

Minimum would be 4 bulb T-5 6 would be better, you'll be very limited with 2 bulbs.

UV is definitely isn't necessary. Some people like them, I don't think they are good to use in a reef tank though, but others disagree.

I agree the bigger the sump the better and you can silicone in some acrylic baffles for a skimmer compartment and refugium. You may want to look into custom glass baffles. You'd need to go to a glass shop though, the 1/8" ones at HD and lowes are a bit thin. I don't think a few small baffles would be that much, but acrylic will work fine too.

Also, there is good 3reef thread, something liek "everything about sumps" or something. I can't find it now, but maybe someone else has the link saved?

Sounds really good. I still think that those fixtures are overpriced. I will try to find some lighting, and i will take a look at the current stuff.

I wouldn't buy new MH or even T5 lights these days. The way people are flocking to LED's it is very easy to get good deals on either one used.

LED lights are expinsive though. Does anyone know what the most cost effective fixture would be. Iv decided to get a 40B. With 20L sump.

Yeah, I'm saying buy USED MH's or T5's from the guys trading up. There's plenty of fixtures available at great prices.

If you are on a budget, then buy a new Odyssea 4 bulb t5 off of ebay. I own one as do many people here. Bottom line is they are the best bang for the buck. A lot of the bad rap they get is due to an old design they had on a MH fixture that was corrected along time ago. 4 bulb t5 odyssea will keep most corals and be easy on your pocket book. There is NO REASON to drop the money for a tek or ati t5 fixture on a 40 breeder. If you are going to spend that much money, just go ahead and get par30 leds.

I used to have odyssea pc a while back and never had an issue. I will most likely go with that. Will it be good enough for sps?

If you swap the bulbs out to ATI's, and put the SPS up at the top, I would think you could keep some. But as someone who's never kept SPS I cant really answer that. The Odyssea light doesnt have the best reflector, thats for sure. But it will definitely keep Softies/LPS no problem.
