This True Percula Clownfish is very similar to the Ocellaris Clownfish or False Percula Clownfish, A. ocellaris. The difference is in the number of dorsal spines (11 for A. ocellaris, and 10 or 9 for A. percula), the anterior part of the dorsal fins is taller in A. ocellaris, and A. ocellaris never have a thick black margin around the three white bars. The two fish do not occur together in nature. The black bar is sometimes expanded more than the fish in the above picture.

Google search found this... cant tell from the pic sorry...

I think it's a false percula because the black outlines are not very thick...but I'm new at this, so I'm not sure. Just my opinion!

It's not a huge deal to me,cause i like them, whatever they are.But from a little googling of my own,i have to agree with you guys,i can't get a count of spines(they wont hold still long enough!!lol!!)but allthough they do have the black lines being thin, they're well defined, but thinner than the true pics i was looking at.Thanks for your answers!!! I'm gonna go with false

I think false are supposed to be less aggressive, so it's good!! Enjoy him!

how much did you pay for them? usually the perculas are a little more than the ocellaris in stores. BUT sometimes the stores don't know what kind they are and they could have been mislabeled.

i got them in a trade,so they cost me a few mushrooms and a few polyps, and no none of the eggs have made it past the cleaner crew,i think my peppermint is the one that eats them.I've downsized tanks(baby on the way)and am actually looking to get rid of them(trading for corals)because i think my bio load is a little high for the 29 i went to.I have a local guy interested in trading some corals, but he's only interested if they are true's.So guess there still on the auction block!! lol!!!
