That I'm not sure of. Hopefully someone will chime in with more experience with that kind of thing.

So I picked up some silicone 1 from ge as per my one hour conversation with the guys from ge. Im thinking I will completely strip all the silicone off the baffles in my sump and reseal them with the new silicone and do a very large water change in the display tank.

Am I going about this the right way or no?

If what ever is in the silicone leaked into the water and caused the death of the fish then IMO i would play it safe and drain everything. No reason to do it half way and only come to relieze you have to drain it 100% later.

The only advice i can give in this hobby is dont cut any corners bc it wont be pretty!

glad to see your sticking with it and trust me we have ALL had our fair share of bad luck.

that's not a bad idea. I recently built my sump/fuge and fortunately read the back of some of those larger/caulk gun style tubes where they said not to be used for aquariums. Home Depot did however have aquarium safe silicon. The tubes are a lot smaller (hand squeezed) and I think it was by Dap. never mind, just found the link for ya --> DAP 3 Oz. Clear 100% Silicone Aquarium Sealant - 00688 at The Home Depot

I ended up getting it there because my LFS sold aquarium safe silicone for like $7 a tube.

I got that but for the amount of silicone in it and the pos spout its impossible to do it w/o a caulk gun imo. The funny thing is that both GE I and GE II say not for aquariums but when I spoke to a GE rep he said that it is safe to use GE I on aquariums. So there is a false advertising issue going on here. I will be writing a complaint letter due to the fact when I called there was 1!! rep there to speak to, no managers etc. For such a big corporation their personal communication is terrible.
I purchased GE I window and door as he said he guarantees this should not cause any issues and is safe for aquarium use. He also said they get 4 to 5 calls a day regaurding this subject. Makes me wonder why they just don't release their own aquarium silicone.
