    Hey Guys,

I have a 55 gallon tank that finished up its 4th week of cycling. I went to the lfs last night to see what my levels are and everything read 0. They said my ph was to low at 7.4 and it needs to be up to 8.2. They suggested I should add some chemicals to it, but I was very hesitant and decided to post the question on here. Should I go ahead and add something to the water or should I just let it cycle a couple more weeks?

IMO, PH buffers are completely safe. I believe most of them are probably just expensive baking soda. The PH basically is how much/little acid is in the water and baking soda buffers it. I used a PH buffer at the end of my cycle and it has been good since(3 months) without having to add more yet.

I'd say Bionics buffer, but you know, I've never tried baking soda. I'm all for keeping it simple and saving a buck!! :)

What is your SG? Also, shouldn't you see a nitrate reading if you had an ammonia source?
