    Stray voltage? I see when you unplug something is when it also goes off.

    Yes, is it on a power strip with other things? If so try plugging it in directly to the wall and see if that stops it.

    Interesting point, I do seem to get a "zap" feeling when I have a small cut on my fingers or hands and work in the tank
