My Tunze Nano skimmer came in yesterday and I was eagerly awaiting the set up.

Initially, I was quite impressed with the packaging...I ordered the item on marinedepot.com and it was packed very well...tons of "Peanuts" and bubble wrap.

Well, I've read on other websites that people really do try and cut corners when purchasing a protein skimmer...and end up spending more money replacing it in the long run...so I took the plunge...shelled out the 160 dollars and hoped like heck that it was a good purchase.

After skimming through the instruction booklet...which was a bit vague to say the least I was beginning to get a bit discouraged :( Being a newbie...I didn't know that it already came fully assembled...haha!!! Very easy..."You just set it and forget it" LOL

People have complained that the holding brackets that Tunze used to have on the skimmer were a chore to assemble....luckily the new model has a very strong magnet...and I mean strong...I have a throbbing thumb to prove it, so keep your fingers out of the way! those magnets can bite down with like 55 lbs of force, yikes!

Cleaning brushes are included :) to maintain the spiffy skimmer, so no reason not to keep it clean...

I merely unwrapped the skimmer, read through the "instructions" and positioned the skimmer to the water line in the aquarium...after a few minutes of second guessing myself...I plugged it in. Since this was my first protein skimmer ever (newbie here) I had no idea how exactly this this was supposed to produce...sooo I went online and youtubed it...and believe it or not!!! the skimmer was already producing a nice dark tea colored skimmate within the hour...no break in period...nor unwanted micro bubbles.

The skimmer works in aquariums from 5 gallons to 54 gallons...but if stoney corals are housed up to 26 gallons.

Supposedly this skimmer is gentle on plankton and great for breeder tanks as well...

This thing is quiet!!! I couldn't believe my ears...my Oreck air purifier is louder than this thing when it's on silent...LOL...

All in all I would have to give this skimmer five stars...I really do think that this is the Rolls Royce of nano skimmers...and I recommend to any of you :)

(Because of the large collection cup, modifications may need to be made to accomidate with an enclosed canopy. Because I have the Aquapod HQI, the open top gave plenty of room for the skimmer...it fits perfectly) :)

    Enjoy, and happy reefing!!!

Ive been using this skimmer for about 3 weeks now and it works great, took a little while to break in , but once it did it works amazingly well for the size . Roger from Tunze said the longer than usual breakin period for these skimmers is due to the evaporating solvents still escaping the newly molded plastic.
