Ive got a pile of parts for my new tank and no time to work on it. This weather needs to let up.

I think two powerheads are better than one for providing flow in a 90g. I don't like having flow from only one source in a tank, it tends to leave dead spots and the coral always get flow from a limited number of directions, in short it's not chaotic enough for me.

Also I think you're comparing apples and oranges here, the MP40 is the top of the line Vortech and pushes a lot more gph than the 6055's. If you're looking at that you're better off comparing the MP10's and then I would go with 2 MP10's over 2 6055's because I love the small in-tank presence and ease of cleaning the vortechs and I love the broad flow they produce.

2 MP10's will push more real gph (they've tested above the marketing numbers) and be cheaper than 2 6055's with an aquasurf by a couple hundred dollars. For that amount of controllable flow I think the MP10's are the best on the market right now although you can't synch the MP10's but I don't think that's the end of the world.
For the same price as 2 6055's and an aquasurf (new) you could have 2 MP20's and you would get a lot more gph potential and have an easy upgrade option in the future for upgrading to the MP40's.

I think the upper end Tunzes definitely compete with the Vortechs for price and flow provided but on the low end it's really difficult to compete with the MP10's and the upgrade possibilities of the MP20's.

Price it out and look at the numbers, and decide what qualities you are looking for in a powerhead. Ultimately it's a personal decision.

I plan to incorporate both Tunze and Vortech into my 75 gallon reef when I have the cash.
