Looking at an ATO setup, have found the Tunze one that comes with everything. Small pump, photoelectric eye level controller, float switch(backup), controller etc etc. Its under $200 CAD, rather than piecing something together might be easier to just get a kit and be done with it. Does anyone use this system? If so, are you happy with it and would you reccomend it? Read a few posts and reviews and they seem to be positive, especially with the photo eye, very dependable and control level very acurately..:-/

They are fantastic. I have a review on 3reef. I had one issue in nearly 8 years of use with and Tunze took care of it.

The only bad thing you will find is from those that don't have them and don't think a ATO is worth $200. You can certainly put one together for less. I absolutely loved mine. Money well spent to me. I pieced together another $50 in parts and automated my water changes with it as well. Easy as pie and worth every penny.

I'm the happy owner of a Tunze Ozmo 3155, one of the best purchases I've ever made for my reef. At first when I got it I was a bit confused by the set-up but as you piece it all together it makes perfect sense. I set-up the optical sensor, alarm float, & 10g reservoir a few months ago and haven't touched it since, simply awesome ATO. Make sure you get the version that has the magnetic mounts, they are extremely secure. I'm fairly sure all the new ones come with the magnet mounts but if you find it used just make sure to inquire.

One word of caution is to make sure that your output tubing is mounted higher than your reservoir, it's crucial as not to create a siphon. I have mine mounted over my overflow box and it's secure and works perfectly.

I think $200 for something that will keep my salinty constant all the time and no dragging around containers of water to top up the evap all the time is a good deal.. I like the alarm idea also, i was looking into getting a water alarm to let me know if the water level was too high in the sump but this has it built right in.. Also read some reviews about it and Tunze seems to be very helpful in setup and most cases if there is a problem there are ready to help.. Ive put one on order, hopefully see it on Friday..

    Thanks all,
    Shane.

You made the right choice! Best piece of equipment I have ever bought.

    Funny. Also true.

I have one too. I love it. It has never given any problems.

Well... twice in the past couple of years I've been awoken in the middle of the night (bc apparently this can only happen at night!) to a snail climbing around the backup (too full) sensor - raising it; making it think I'm about to overflow. Setting off the alarm.

In both cases the offending snail was thrown to the front yard ;D
