i am considering getting the turbo flotor 1000 classic for my sump. i know the height of this unit is 21", what i dont know is how much additional space is needed to remove/replace cup for cleaning. my cabinet has 23.5" clearance. that leaves 2.5". will i have to slide out my refugium just to do this maintenance??? thanks.

Great choice in skimmer. Can you have your skimmer accessible by having your sump on the end? I cut the end out of my cabinet for just that reason. Not enough clearance under tha cainet stand.

Unfortunately, no i cant cut out the end of my stand. as it is now, i will be cutting a hole in one of my partitions under in the cabinet to accomodate the length of the 20 short. i was hoping that there is enough clearance. otherwise i would see if i can lean it out toward the front of the cabinet to get the top off.
I would just like to know of owners of the 1000 or those in the know, how much room to take off the cup. as you said, this is a good choice for a skimmer, my only other choice would be the Aqua-C Urchin Pro, which also stands 21" tall and has a good reputation, but i found info stating it needed 26" minimum for proper maintenance.
    Input greatly appreciated!

Well going from memory of my buddie's Turboflotor and this pic, I'd say you'd be ok.

You'll get the cap off - but like you were thinking, you have to lean it and pull it out or apart to do the big clean.
