    I had that skimmer, they are pretty nice:

    That pump it comes with is all you need.

    They have an updated model that you should take a look at. I think it has a couple improvements over this one.

    thanks for replying. choosing a skimmer is hard.

    I have a 75 gallon with maybe 135 pounds of live rock. 4-5 inches of live sand. and a pretty descent sized bioload. I want a heavy duty fill a cup up 3 times a day skimmer. MY budget is 300 bucks.

    found the new 1000 blue version on ebay it is more in my price range so I am shooting for that thanks for your help.

    Do you need to mod it, or have you found it to be satisfactory out of the box? I was thinking about changing skimmers as mine is OK but I think I could probably get more gunk than what I am out of the water. I like the fact you can hang it on the sump, would provide more usable space as mine is getting pretty packed.

    You don't need to mod it to have it working in standard sump-design. In my case skimmer is simply totally outside the display tank and only pump is in filter compartment of my 45 gal. cube.
